Christmas Celebration with the
elderly of Asrama Cahaya
In conjunction with the Christmas celebrations, a total of 30 PPB employees brought cheer to 33 elderly of Asrama Cahaya, Infant Jesus Convent located in Jalan Bukit Nanas, Kuala Lumpur on 19 December 2013. Asrama Cahaya is a non-profit home for elderly women, some of whom have disabilities ranging from hearing, speech and sight impairments to mental disabilities.
Together with PPB staff, the elderly sang Christmas carols and played a simple passing-the-gifts game which brought them much delight. Thereafter, a sumptuous buffet lunch was served.
PPB donated to the home, a heavy duty washing machine as well as FFM products and groceries. Every elderly was also given a mug and a bath towel.
Most of the residents in Asrama Cahaya have been with the home since they were young having been abandoned as children. Retired sisters manage the home utilising savings from their working days. They also receive a small grant from the Welfare Department and public donations. Despite their disabilities, the elderly make craft items (rugs, blanket, purses, bags, etc) for sale to raise funds for the home. The event ended with PPB staff touring the craft area and many bought their lovely handiwork.
