PPB Leisure Holdings Sdn Bhd, the leisure and entertainment arm of PPB, owns 100% equity interest in Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC).
GSC Group operates a total of 361 digital screens in 41 locations across Malaysia and Vietnam through a joint venture partnership with Galaxy Studio which has 43 screens in 7 locations in Vietnam. In Malaysia, GSC has 318 digital screens in 34 locations in the Klang Valley, Penang, Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Ipoh, Seremban, Melaka, Kuantan, Mentakab, Kota Kinabalu, Miri and Kuching.
GSC manages the largest multiplex in Southeast Asia – the 21-screen GSC Mid Valley and the largest digital hall in Malaysia, a 486-seater GSC Maxx on the 10th floor of Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur. GSC also operates Malaysia’s first-ever boutique cinema, GSC Signature with Gold Class and Premiere Class halls in The Gardens Mall, KL together with three F&B outlets (Paradiso, Café Caro and Dessert Bar).
GSC was the first cinema operator in Malaysia to feature the ground breaking audio surround technology, the Dolby® Atmos™ to provide movie buffs with great sound and movie experience. The first ever Dolby® Atmos™ hall was launched in 2013 and is currently available in 20 GSC locations.
GSC launched the country’s first D-BOX motion seats, offering perfectly synchronized motions with the movie scenes at GSC 1 Utama in 2014. The feature was subsequently extended to GSC Pavilion KL, GSC Gurney Plaza Penang, GSC IOI City Mall, GSC Mid Valley Megamall, GSC Ipoh Parade, GSC AEON Bandaraya Melaka, GSC Suria Sabah Mall and GSC CityONE Megamall.
In 2012, GSC Lite was introduced, a brand which embodied lighter, modest cinema entertainment at selected convenient and accessible locations in smaller towns without compromising the big screens and digital sounds that are available in urban centres. This format allows GSC customers to continue enjoying the cinema-going experience at competitive pricing in market centres like Mentakab, Kuantan, Seremban, Sungai Petani and Miri.
In keeping with the changing lifestyle, GSC launched a co-branded credit card in 2009 – the GSC-Hong Leong Credit Card, the Ultimate Movie card to cater to the needs of movie-goers. This is the first credit card to offer discounts on movie tickets, concessions and F&B in-dining service.
GSC Mobile App (iOS & Android) introduced in 2011 enables movie-goers to purchase tickets via m2u mobile, PayPal or “RHB Now” on their smartphones. The Mobile App was extended to Windows Phone in 2014 with payment options of credit cards and m2u mobile. Movie fans also enjoy the convenient “ticketless” option by scanning the 2D barcode on their mobile phones at auto-gates in the cinemas.
GSC has also unveiled an innovative GSC e-Voucher facility to cater for corporate loyalty programmes and promotions in 2012. This e-solution eliminates manual distribution of physical vouchers and allows movie-goers to redeem their e-Voucher via e-Payment on GSC’s website and mobile app.
GSC e-Combo was introduced in 2013, and is currently available at selected locations. This new online service enables movie-goers to conveniently purchase selected combos together with their movie tickets online or via the GSC Mobile App.
Alternative content was introduced in 2012 with the screening of “ColdPlay Live”, and throughout the years, GSC have showcased a number of alternative contents such as “Naruto the Movies”, “Swedish House Mafia: Leave the World Behind” and “Andrea Bocelli: Love in Portofino” in selected GSC cinemas.
Besides movies, GSC halls are also ideal for both corporate and private events like gala premieres, press conferences, product launches and seminars. GSC cinemas provide comfortable seating with facilities, such as wide screen projection, Digital and LCD projector for full audio-visual presentation for event organizers.
GSC won the prestigious Gold Award in the Putra Brand Awards 2015 in the Entertainment Category for the second consecutive year, after winning the Gold Award (Entertainment Category in 2014) and Silver Award (Media & Entertainment Category) consecutively in 2012 and 2013.
