PPB Leisure Holdings Sdn Bhd, the leisure and entertainment arm of PPB, owns a 100% equity stake in Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC).
In Malaysia, GSC has 508 screens across 53 locations in Malaysia and over 117 screens in 20 locations in Vietnam through a partnership with Galaxy Studio, which combined brings its footprint to a total of 625 screens in 73 locations across both countries.
An enriching world of cinema experiences
A trailblazer in the cinema industry, GSC prides itself on innovating and delivering new and enriching cinema experiences to audiences in Malaysia. GSC has launched the biggest cinema in Malaysia at GSC IOI City Mall, with the completion of GSC IOI City Mall 2 (East). Spanning a combined total of 26 screens under one roof, GSC IOI City Mall (East) is complete with end-to-end lifestyle offerings to enhance Malaysians’ cinematic experiences.
As a full-fledged 360 entertainment hub, GSC IOI City Mall 2 (East) is every movie goers’ dream. Equipped with the latest on-screen technologies offering all movie formats, movie-enthusiasts are spoiled for choice with Malaysia’s first IMAX with Laser Hall, 4DX, D-BOX, Screen X, BIG and Dolby Atmos, making it a complete experience where movie-goers are able to purchase their favourite movie memorabilia at Keepsake. GSC IOI City Mall 2 is also home to the largest PlayPark, a family-friendly cinema hall where little ones can run, play and jump without distractions and an adjoining play area for kids to have fun. Serving up addictive milkshakes and scrumptious bites, GSC’s own café, Happy Food Co. located at GSC IOI City Mall 2 marks its first foray in Klang Valley.
It was the first cinema operator to launch Dolby Atmos in 2013, which is now available in more than 30 GSC locations. GSC then launched the nation’s first D-BOX motion seats, which offers perfectly synchronized motions with movie scenes, at GSC 1 Utama in 2014 followed by 14 other locations to date.
Expanding on immersive cinematic experiences, GSC later launched the world’s leading 4D cinematic technology, 4DX in 2017. Developed by South Korea’s CJ 4DPLEX, 4DX brings the movies to life with over 20 signature effects delivered through vibration and motion-activated seats, as well as environmental effects like wind, fog, rain, lightning, and scents. 4D movie-going was later extended to more audiences in 2021 with the acquisition of MX4D, which delivers equally immersive cinematic experiences.
The partnership with CJ 4DPLEX also led GSC to introduce the country’s first ScreenX theatre – a multi-projection theatre that allows a 270-degree panoramic movie experience, which expands the screen to the side walls to give a sense of being inside the movie. ScreenX is now available at GSC 1 Utama and Aurum Theatre, The Exchange TRX.
When it comes to halls and screens, GSC owns some of the largest cinema screens in the country with GSC BIG, its proprietary premium large format screen, which delivers big sound, big screens, and big experiences. Besides GSC BIG, GSC also has a few IMAX halls, which are currently available at Aurum Theatre, The Exchange TRX, GSC IOI City Mall 2 (East), Putrajaya and GSC The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey, Johor Bahru with more locations to come in the next few years.
For families looking to spend quality time together, Play Halls are one of the unique attractions in GSC, available across three different formats, GSC Play, GSC PlayPlus and GSC PlayPark. GSC Play is perfect for families of all sizes, complete with play areas and adjoining facilities for added convenience.

Elevate your senses at Hokkaido Table
Hokkaido Table presents a Japanese-Italian fusion menu, comprising an Omakase, Restaurant and Bar, promising the freshest, seasonal produce and inspired by the rustic flavours of Italian cuisine. Labelled as the first-of-its kind Omakase within cinema premises, the Omakase menu brings out the freshest flavours– with both lunch and dinner dining options available. The restaurant offers hearty flavours including Sashimi Moriawase, signature seafood pasta and risotto dishes, mains which include fish, poultry and meat that encompass light yet vibrant profiles from the medley of Italian herbs complemented with umami flavours. The selection of desserts bring balance to diner’s palettes, offering favourites with Tiramisu, burnt cheesecake, and strawberry shortcake. For those looking to enjoy a tipple or two, the Bar offers a selection of refreshing mocktails and delightful bites to enjoy.
Cosy up at Kissa Cafe and Diner
A range of Japanese-western food awaits diners at Kissa Cafe and Diner, complete with a vibrant and casual space to catch up with friends and loved ones. Inspired by authentic Japanese kissatens and reminiscent of Western diners, the menu brings to life signature dishes including classic burgers, sandos, ramen, and pastas with a Japanese-twist. Sit back and relax with Kissa’s specialty drinks including Galaxy Lemonade, Sweet Potato Latte, Cheese Mousse Matcha and Mocha Cheese Foam.

Velvet Cinemas by GSC is KL’s newest boutique cinema conceptualised by GSC. Nestled in the heart of Mont Kiara at Retail Park 163, Velvet Cinemas by GSC reimagines retro cinematic experiences, complete with vibrant F&B and lifestyle offerings, in partnership with Alliance Bank.
Drawing inspiration from retro cinema in the 60s, with an eclectic combination of retro and modern designs, Velvet presents an intimate space for audiences to relive the magic of cinema. With a total of 163 seats across 3 halls, Velvet will showcase a dedicated line-up of arthouse films, well-lovedclassics, foreign films, and Hollywood blockbusters, ranging from a multi-verse of genres including horror, thrillers, comedy, action, and more.
Innovations that deliver convenience
Beyond the silver screen, GSC has been a pioneer in enhancing the customer cinema purchasing experience. In 2011, the GSC Mobile App was introduced to simplify the booking of movie tickets and concessions on-the-go, enabling movie-goers to skip the queue. This ticketless option provides movie fans a QR code that they can then scan at auto-gates in the cinemas. Today, it is available on all major mobile platforms including iOS and Android, with payment via a diverse variety of cashless options including banking, credit cards, and e-wallets.
The e-Kiosk facility was then introduced in 2017, giving customers at GSC the added convenience of a self-checkout on-site, generating a barcode receipt that can be scanned at the auto-gate for quick entry into the cinema halls.
GSC continues to innovate further by introducing Gen 5 e-kiosk facilities in GSC IOI City Mall 2 (East) Putrajaya to improve the cinema going experience. Customers can now skip the queue and self-order their favourite concession items and collect at the pick-up counter upon purchase. These facilities will be rolled out to cinemas nationwide in the next few years.
To cater to corporate loyalty programmes and promotions, GSC has launched GSC Rewards in 2022 where members will have the opportunity to earn GSCoins whenever they spend at cinemas nationwide over-the-counter or online as well as all F&B establishments and Keepsake.
More than just the movies
More than just tech, GSC understands that content is what makes the cinema. In 1999, GSC launched International Screens, a brand dedicated to arthouse, award-winning, non-mainstream, and foreign language films. Available in selected cinemas, GSC International Screens has since expanded to include other content such as concerts, anime, sports, and more.
GSC has attained many awards over the years, receiving the Exhibitor of the Year award in CineAsia 2016 and Brand of the Year Award – National Tier (Malaysia) at the World Branding Awards in 2018. A regular achiever at the Putra Brand Awards, it was recognised as a Putra Brand Icon in 2017 for attaining four consecutive Gold Awards over the last few years. To date, GSC has five Gold Putra Brand Awards and in 2019 was awarded its first prestigious Platinum Award in the Entertainment Category.and 2024 marks our 5th consecutive year attaining the Platinum award and have entered the Hall of Fame of Putra Brand Awards. In 2022, GSC was also selected as ‘Pawagam Mesra Keluarga’ in the Entertainment Category at the ‘Anugerah Pilihan Pa&Ma’ and the Best Family-Friendly Cinema at the Babytalk MamaPapa Awards 2023.
Beyond the movies, GSC has also expanded into merchandising with the opening of its very own e-commerce platform, Keepsake, where customers can order and have their products delivered directly to their doorstep.
